How broadband is like healthcare

A reader sent me a link to a NY Times article on the US National Broadband Plan , suggesting that this might be a “possible topic from someone with a world view” . So I’m going to talk about that, and will explain how a national broadband plan is similar to healthcare in being a form of redistribution. My apologies if that’ll sometimes sound a bit like Gevlon, only that I of course would be for redistribution, and he would be against.

My password is “a”

My password is “a” is a post from: Aurdon’s Mage Blog A Blizzard employee messages me! SQUEEEE! Here I am, minding my own business, and I get a message out of the blue by non other then “Blizzjoyce” who also happens to be a level 1 orc warrior by the way.

The Art of War(craft): Introductory guide to fighting rogues, Part 4

Zach thinks rogues are dastardly, sneaky and will backstab you at the first opportunity. Take this guide, for example. Rogues just ambushed Zach with a ton of useless information.

All the World’s a Stage: Name your sin

Last week, we talked about ways to add flaws to your roleplay character. These flaws have the benefit of providing realistic depth and humanity to characters which might otherwise feel too “perfect” for believability. (Well, as believable as a magic-wielding orc would be.) The idea is that the depth and development creates a more full, well-rounded personality.

Turning single-player games into MMORPGs

One last question from the open Sunday thread, then I think I answered them all. Void asked: “I would like to see you post about what MMOs could learn from single player games.

BM PvP Guide – Part 3: Shot priority and other ponderings

Welcome to the long overdue latest installment of my series on BM PvP. This post was actually scratched out in December, but never quite finished.

Patch 3.3.3 PTR: Death knight changes

The Patch 3.3.3 PTR notes are out, and with them a nice handful of death knight changes. Oddly enough, most of them are buffs. The focus this time seems to be mostly on slightly buff death knight tanking, giving frost DPS some arguably much needed buffs, and applying some general changes to specific talents in the death knight class.

Reflecting on 6 or 7 Tanking Mistakes you’ll consistently make

Looking back on our Putricide10 man kill, I’m reminded of a number of mistakes that I made while we went through the learning process. This fight really is an excellent example of a fight where small subtle choices you make can have huge implications.

World of Warcraft in China remains hopelessly mired

Filed under: World of Warcraft , Fantasy , MMO industry , News items , Legal In much of the world, current complaints about World of Warcraft center around the resolution of the storyline of the latest expansion and whether or not it’s had a negative effect on MMOs as a whole. In China , current complaints about World of Warcraft are more focused on the fact that the game is still mired knee-deep in government infighting to try and make it playable again. After the last salvo , it seemed as if an end was close in sight..

Hunter Basics: Explosive Shot

Explosive Shot is the signature ability of the survival tree. However, I often find that many hunters are unaware of how and when to properly use it, especially in the event of a Lock and Load proc. Until Kill Shot becomes available (once the kill target is at or below 20% health), Explosive Shot is the number one priority shot

Paragon World First Lich King, PvP Healing, Blue posts

It’s time to put an end to the whole Ensidia thing and go back to WoW news! If you still want to discuss the subject I suggest that you head to Ensidia’s website . A lot of people asked me what was my opinion on the subject, I’ll keep it simple : I got information from both Ensidia and Blizzard (unofficially, just to be clear) sides and I still have no idea who is wrong or right, and we will probably never know. This is just a lot of time wasted discussing kills when guilds aren’t even competing for the Heroic Mode yet, just be glad the bug was found now and see you next week for heroic modes! Paragon 25-Man Lich King Normal Mode World First Kill Paragon killed the Lich King a couple of minutes ago and we will assume that this kill is bug-free and will make everyone happy

The Art of War(craft): Introductory guide to fighting hunters, Part 2

Zach continues Monday’s The Art of War(craft) , which started an overview of the game’s premier pet class by checking out their pets.

The Patched Affliction Warlock Rotation

A fter I wrote the quick and easy patch notes post yesterday, I pretty much figured I was going to get the following question: How will you change your opening rotation with 3 stacks of Shadow Embrace? Haunt> SB> SB> rest of the dots?? Thus, I did some pre-emptive theorycrafting and research to inform my answer.? Even though I expected it, I still want to say thanks to Parpa who asked it.? This is a great question.? Nothing ventured, nothing gained.? Right?? I almost answered it with a comment, but I thought it deserved a post of its own.? So, how to answer

Core hounded

We just talked this week of bloggers changing their mind, and here is one thing where I changed mine: I bought and applied a Blizzard authenticator to my World of Warcraft account, netting me a cute core hound pup pet. But I didn’t get the authenticator for the pet, but because of more and more people swearing that their account got hacked *without* them having been careless with their passwords. Now I still believe that a large percentage of that “hacking” is not due to high-tech methods, but to rather low-tech scams, like the scammers who set up a fake WoW armory site and managed to get on top of the Google search for “wow armory” by paying for the link.

Lichborne: Plagueworks loot for death knights

Welcome to Lichborne , WoW.com’s weekly death knight column. This week, your host, Daniel Whitcomb, is busy applying for a slot as one of Arthas’ pall bearers

Invincible Music, Reslience Change Update, Blue Posts

Invincible Music The latest Battlecry Mosaic tile was revealed last night and along with it a new unlock.? This time it isn’t images though; it’s a music piece we’ve never heard before called Invincible, no doubt about Arthas Menethil’s mount which died during his youth, but is now raised to serve him even in death! Blue Posts Resilience changes requires a server restart ( Source ) There was some confusion on our end so here is the clarification on this change going live. The hotfix is live, but it requires a server restart before it will actually affect your gear

Invincible Music, Blue posts

Battlecry Mosaic – Invincible Music I love you Blizzard. Another tile of the BattleCry Mosaic was unlocked an hour ago and the reward is something way better than the few artworks in the past weeks

Resilience Changes, Arena Season Issues

Update : Ok, removed the EU first Lana’thel thing. Will eventually post about it slightly later when we can figure out who is first.

AI: Spiritmastering at 35

A ion had been taking a back seat, writing wise, since WoW introduced the last major patch. Game-time wise wasn’t much different, but I was logging some good weekend hours to take advantage of the double exp offered.
