Spring Cleaning – Out With the Old, In With the New

I think I mentioned about a year or so ago that I’d be moving to self-host. That day is quickly arriving, and it’s about time.

Pointless Filler Post is Pointless

I hate so very many things. Illogical hatred, the kind of hatred that simply consumes your entire mind in an instant inferno of indescribable rage. A rage that, if it was in a game and possessed a tooltip, would say “ATYAGI*)(&!B %GBH!@HB DAGUDY!!!JDH KAHF@NF”.

Alganon shake-up

As I mentioned before, last year I received a special invitation to play Alganon in beta, and to tell the developers my opinion about that game. I told them that they were copying WoW too closely, which would never work with the budget they had, and that they would have to do something to differentiate themselves from WoW, either in the business model or the gameplay.

WoW Moviewatch: I Play as a Chick

Work Warning : This video has WoW models in their underwear, and sexually suggestive themes. I Play as a Chick is one of those videos that come with amazing coordination and collaboration between artists. Yumfries , Sharm , Wick , and Tradechat got together to create this epic piece of work, and the final product is absolutely amazing

Is there a place for MMO magazines?

In the vein of the World of Warcraft magazine, Massively reports that NCSoft has announced a magazine for the MMORPG Aion. Unlike the quarterly World of Warcraft magazine , the Aion magazine will be digital-only and come out every four weeks, or roughly every month. The Aion magazine also features bonus in-game items for players who pre-order, such as armor dyes and consumables.

Sunday Morning Funnies: Red shirt mistake

Alas, this week’s list is merely an average size. What does that mean? Many artists are busy, away, injured, or have websites that aren’t working

The Many Faces of Immersion

In the past couple of weeks both Evizaer and Wolfshead have featured articles on the topic of immersion in video games, however neither writer’s definition of the phenomenon rang particularly true to me. As a term, “immersion” is bandied around by gaming pundits when discussing games to describe a mash-up of factors that range anywhere from a “realistic game world” to an “extremely engrossing gaming experience”. The two aforementioned articles illustrate these usages wonderfully: Immersion is a state when the player or spectator (in the case of plays and motion pictures) temporarily suspends their disbelief and willingly transports themselves into the realized world of the creator

15 Minutes of Fame: The solo artist

15 Minutes of Fame is WoW.com’s look at World of Warcraft players of all shapes and sizes — from the renowned to the relatively anonymous, from the remarkable to the player next door.

WoW Moviewatch: Life of a Vendor

Life of a Vendor is one the most subtle, beautiful WoW movies I’ve seen this year. The music video is set to I don’t know by Lisa Hannigan . The video’s author is Galenmereth.

Book: The Disappeared, Kristine Kathryn Rusch

The Disappeared , by Kristine Kathryn Rusch, is the first book in her Retrieval Artist series; that said, it is actually the second book in the series that I have read, the first ( Buried Deep ) having been picked up on a whim at a used book store.

Breakfast Topic: Artsy-fartsy

In the last year, I have noticed that Blizzard has been making more of an effort to reach out to its community. When I say community, I mean the artists, the writers, the singers, bloggers, theorycrafters, and everything in between. From having the three major franchises join Twitter, to the Battlecry Mosaic , to contests galore — tell me, what does this mean to you

WoW Moviewatch: Still Alive — JoCo version

I think Still Alive — JoCo version wins the “genre bending” award. Still Alive was originally the closing credits song for Portal by Valve Software .

Blood Sport: Resource mechanics in arena, Part 2

Want to crush your enemies, see them driven before you, and hear the lamentation of their women?

Breakfast Topic: The Personal Aesthetic

Recently, a commenter on a post mentioned that I use a similar screenshot for a lot of my The Care and Feeding of Warriors posts. I looked over it, and he was right: since I race changed to draenei, in fact, quite a few of the screenshots have been silhouetted, facing downwards shots that I often take just because I am playing my character and suddenlt stop and say “wow, that’s cool” – I’m not a terribly sophisticated visual thinker (for that, I go to my wife, who has a landscape artist’s eyes and a remarkable grasp of light and nuance) but I know what I like. One of the reasons I like playing draenei and tauren are connected to the classes I like to play: shamans, warriors and DK’s are the only classes I’ve consistently gotten to max rank, and in all of those cases I tend to play large characters.

WoW Moviewatch: Ninja Raiders [Update]

Like the Craft of War: BLIND back in its own day, Ninja Raiders has been recommended to Moviewatch every few days.

Guest Post: The Secret of Writing

Today’s post is brought to you by the awesome Tami, who will introduce herself here in a minute (as I am still out of town). She’s an awesome writer, and you may have once known her as The Egotistical Priest. She’s filling in for me today with a little bit about the actual /process/ that is writing.
