Balancing class strength and flavor

One of the things I hear a lot from other tanks (especially paladin tanks) is how much they envy Charge , and especially being able to Charge in combat . “Man, I’d give up X for Charge.” Usually what they want to give up is their shield throw , or their AoE taunt , which of course is not a terribly compelling idea: warriors have parallels for these abilities and charge isn’t one of them.

PS : 10 Tips to Stop Going OOM As a Paladin Tank in Heroics

I’ve got an article up today on Paladin Schmaladin on how to run Heroics as a Paladin Tank and not go OOM constantly.

Arcane Brilliance: An argument for raiding as a frost mage

Welcome to another edition of Arcane Brilliance, the weekly mage column that would like to assert the following: Fact: Mages are the sparkliest class in the game. Fact: Sparkles are awesome.

I think the RNG is trying to tell me something

A short story, in three acts. Act 1: When I first leveled Annorah, the RNG tried to tell me something. I’d leveled her as elemental, and was happily an elemental shaman, until one day in Karazhan I realized I had a full mail healing kit and 3/4 of an enhancement set – both of which were better than my elemental gear.

Stat changes in Cataclysm: Death Knight Style

T oday represents the last in our tri-partite look at the Cataclysmic stat changes.? As promised, Death Knights are the topic of today’s discussion.? Again, I’d like to make sure to note that like everything else Blizzard does, this is subject to change.? With that in mind, we’ll be looking more at the general directions they want to go. For DPS Death Knights Being a bi-functional class (tanking and DPS), we have to look at the changes in two ways.? Let’s check out the DPS stats changes first.? Here’s the old stat priority for Frost DPS: Hit (until cap) > Str > Expertise (until cap) > Crit > Haste The only two stats that are going away that we had some moderate use for are Attack Power and Armor Penetration, but as you can see, those weren’t really in our top five.? In fact, they will each now convert into one of those or stamina, so it’s all good.? As long as you’re wearing plate, you should be well itemized.? The non-plate items will be tailored towards other classes, and we will probably see less overlap, making those items not as good for us.? As a plate, melee DPS, we should just be prepared to see more stamina and more strength.? Nothing big here

Hunter Cataclysm Stat Changes

I had so much fun looking at the stat changes for Honorshammer, I thought I’d see what Cataclysm has in store for my Hunter.

Stat changes in Cataclysm: Protection Paladin Style

H ey Gang! So, Blizzard has finally announced how the stat changes might look when the new expansion comes out.

Tanking Stat Changes in Cataclysm

The Devs have unveiled some of the important stat changes coming in Cataclysm. More so than any other Expansion of World of Warcraft, I’ve come to think of Cataclysm as a WoW Reloaded, or WoW 2.0

The groupability stat

I have this brilliant idea for Blizzard for a series of role-specific stats to introduce in Cataclysm, which I’ll call groupability stats. Each groupability stat is unique to one role, be it tanking, healing, or dps.

The Daily Quest: Responding to Catacylsm’s stat changes

Cataclysm Stat & System Changes

Cataclysm Stat & System Changes Quote from: Eyonix ( Source ) As many of you know from panels at last year?s BlizzCon and posts here on the forums since then, Cataclysm will bring about major changes to familiar character stats such as Intellect, Armor Penetration, Defense, and others, ultimately designed to make the effects of stats more easily understandable and make gear choices more interesting.

Burning Germany to the ground

As I’d hoped, Bill has posted a battle report for the game of Axis & Allies (revised edition) that we played on Saturday. I played the Allies, while he controlled the Axis powers

New race/class combos will not be live before Cataclysm

In a very short answer, the devs confirmed in the recent Twitter developer chat that the new race and class combinations will not go live until Cataclysm itself goes live. In a way, this isn’t too much a surprise

Board Game: Panzer General

Bill and I had a rare games day yesterday which, as always, started with a ritual gorging on an orgy of food at Denny’s, and then graduated into a game of the new Axis & Allies (which I’m hoping Bill will review on his site ) before moving into a few rounds of Panzer General: Allied Assault , a game that I received for my birthday last month. Click to enlarge Panzer General is an interesting collaboration between Petroglyph Games and Ubisoft. The World War II strategy title was co-developed for the Xbox 360 (XBLA) and meatspace game market.

Shifting Perspectives: In defense of a glyph everyone hates

Every week, Shifting Perspectives explores issues affecting druids and those who group with them . This week, we make a dangerous segue from curling to the issue of Healing Touch in raids, shattering our once-promising career with a finger cramp. I’d be the first to admit I don’t take the game quite as seriously as the hardcore theorycrafters at EJ.

Why non-consentual PvP will remain niche

In the open Sunday thread there was a question why some people, and me in specific, don’t like PvP. Well, I can give you my reasons, and some general considerations. And while I don’t claim to speak for everybody, it has to be remarked that all non-consentual PvP games have done extremely badly in the history of MMORPGs

Post Mortem: Retro Game Challenge

A few weeks ago when I was abruptly dragged away from home for a business trip I went looking for a game to play in my hotel room in the evenings.
