Healing And Leading – Chalk And Cheese?

An interesting quandary materialised at WoM headquarters last week. How do you raid lead as a new healer? Say you’re that new healer.

Breafast Topic: Do you use all available buffs when pugging?

I rarely notice buffs when I’m running heroic dungeons. Granted, every buff helps in maximizing DPS or survivability, but I personally don’t find it really necessary . Do you absolutely have to have Blessings of Kings or a Prayer of Fortitude

Leveling a DK: An Introduction to basic concepts.

Heya guys!! So one of the biggest things about leveling any toon in WoW is “What spec do I use?” Believe it or not, it is one of the most common questions out there. So lets dip into this question briefly?

Business model middle ground

In the open Sunday thread Void expressed his opinion that most MMORPGs either cost $15 a month, or are Free2Play, and wondered why there was no middle ground. That seems to be a common enough thought, Syp from Bio Break just posted about Cryptic games not being worth $15 per month and suggested they go Free2Play instead

WoW Patch 3.3.3 Honor and PvP Changes

There’s a lot going down in Patch 3.3.3 I haven’t really covered so far in regards to PvP and specifically my favorite feature – Battlegrounds. All of this is in preparation of the massive PvP overhaul coming in Cataclysm with a heavier emphasis on Battlegrounds. Tokens are being removed from the game, if you have tokens (the currency you get when you win or lose any BG) you’ll be able to turn those in now for a minor chunk of honor, which is a good thing I guess since there are some players out there with thousands of marks of honor

Tanking Perceptions

(You knew it was coming. This is a rant.) Dear Heroic LFD Puggers: Let me explain to you some things. First, the defense cap for heroics is 535.

Weekend round up.

Did first 4 bosses on ICC 25 man - My better upgrades are going to come from 25 so I should do them more often. Don’t need much loot in 10’s.

GDC Roundup, day four

The tenth annual Game Developers Conference is in full swing in San Francisco, CA, and our sister sites Joystiq and Massively are on the scene! No matter what kind of games you’re into, there’s a ton of news on its way out of the convention, and we’re compiling some of the stuff that might matter to you in daily roundups just for you.

Death of the Niche Healer

Recently a topic has sprung up among many healers. T here are lots of blog posts popping up about it so I figured since I’ve been going on about it for a while now, I’ll add my two copper to the public domain here, but first a story. In the days of vanilla World of Warcraft, each faction had access to 3 healing classes

Cataclysm in PC Gamer UK, Blue posts

Cataclysm rumours/info now in PC Gamer UK VERY BIG Spoilers In the latest issue of PC Gamer (UK) is a 6 page article named ‘50 reasons to play Catalysm’. The vast majority of what is covered is already known/confirmed, however, there appears to be verifcation of certain rumours first made here on MMO-champion in the days before Blizzcon but that were never confirmed nor denied. Just a note on the source before everyone starts screaming for links for scans

I’m not an Altoholic * hic

Cozmo from GTFOOTF pointed out that so many of us bloggers are playing Wow in some new or different wa y to maintain our motivations to keep playing, and speaking to Kiwired from One of these Alts  who has rolled even more Alts with SAN – how SAN   ( Single Abstract Noun ) has come about at the right time for him to fill in the gaps between now and the expansion. Alts – Special projects – who will survive this downturn – or shall we see more Phoenix raiders ‘die’ and then resurrect in time for the expansion with grand stories of other games, and stuff like real life stories.  The result of a current case of Altolism or Is it ADD is now a Level 20 Shammy – I’m feeling a little guilty

The Icecrown Citadel buff

As I’m not currently raiding, I didn’t mention the Icecrown Citadel buff up to now. Blizzard had already in previous expansions made characters stronger and nerfed raid dungeons with time, so that at the end of an expansion people could visit raid dungeons they had been previously been unable to beat.

Know Your Lore: The Green Dragonflight

The World of Warcraft is an expansive universe. You’re playing the game, you’re fighting the bosses, you know the how, but do you know the why

MMO Roundup: Olympic medalists, Warhammer 40k, and more

Sometimes you’d like to know that there are other MMOs out there, right? It’s not all WoW, all the time! Our sister site Massively can provide you with everything you need to know about all of the other MMOs around, past, present and future.

Gold Selling

The Problem Last week Big Bear Butt issued a call for Blizzard to end Prohibition and start selling gold to players . The theory is that by offering players a safe and legal method of purchasing gold, Blizzard will greatly damage the economic incentive of hackers and goldsellers, reducing the damage that hacked accounts are doing to the game.

Outside the themepark

In the open Sunday thread a reader asked whether there was any connection between Tamarind founding a new guild for the blogging community and Gevlon founding a new ganking guild. Obviously the two guilds couldn’t be any more different from each other, Single Abstract Noun is a social guild, while Gevlon posted extremely anti-social guild rules .

Totem Talk: Enhancement talents

Axes, maces, lightning, fire, frost, and wolves, and best of all, Windfury. It can mean only one thing: enhancement. Rich Maloy lives it and loves it

I think the RNG is trying to tell me something

A short story, in three acts. Act 1: When I first leveled Annorah, the RNG tried to tell me something. I’d leveled her as elemental, and was happily an elemental shaman, until one day in Karazhan I realized I had a full mail healing kit and 3/4 of an enhancement set – both of which were better than my elemental gear.

Breakfast Topic: Who could be a new world boss in Cataclysm?

One thing that was missing from the Wrath expansion, conspicuously or not, was a world boss on par with those such as Kazzak and the Emerald Dragons . For better or for worse, Blizzard completely removed them from the game, reserving the massive figures towering over the landscape for instanced quests or dungeons
