Leveling a DK: An Introduction to basic concepts.

Heya guys!! So one of the biggest things about leveling any toon in WoW is “What spec do I use?” Believe it or not, it is one of the most common questions out there. So lets dip into this question briefly?

Social Differences in Raiding

The following occurred as I was talking with a friend about raiding and how there’s a difficult balance between doing necessary content and content people want to do. It’s a balance of needs, wants and social structure that’s much different than just playing the game by yourself. (1:41:43 AM) Paradox : It’s a game.

Stockholm syndrome and Hecker’s nightmare

I recently came across a player in World of Warcraft who was wearing a guild tag of .

WoW Patch 3.3.3 Honor and PvP Changes

There’s a lot going down in Patch 3.3.3 I haven’t really covered so far in regards to PvP and specifically my favorite feature – Battlegrounds. All of this is in preparation of the massive PvP overhaul coming in Cataclysm with a heavier emphasis on Battlegrounds. Tokens are being removed from the game, if you have tokens (the currency you get when you win or lose any BG) you’ll be able to turn those in now for a minor chunk of honor, which is a good thing I guess since there are some players out there with thousands of marks of honor

Hall of Fame: Anaalius of Chamber of Aspect-EU

The Warcraft Econ Hall of Fame  is a column featuring the few elite players that have hit the World of Warcraft gold cap of 214,748 gold 36 silver 46 copper.

Gold, entitlement, and morality

As I mentioned in the previous post, Tobold the tauren shaman of Single Abstract Noun is now level 20. What I didn’t mention is that he has 851 gold pieces in his pocket, having earned 1,092 gold over his live already, starting from nothing, and with no outside help. That is something I *am* proud of.

The real purpose of end-game

So Ferrel wants to bring back the grind and make leveling slower again, while Chris thinks leveling should be slowed down by giving less xp for quests . Both talk about how much better life was in Everquest, where most players never even reached the level cap (I didn’t), and how MMORPGs should be about the journey, not about the destination.

Hall of Fame: Hulan of Moonglade-EU

Give all Starting toons 1 gold.

Due to circumstances – my Foray into the Bloggers guild, Single Abstract Noun and rolling a new toon as horde with a friend – I started leveling two new toons this weekend from scratch. My #4 Priest Pugnaciouss  ( yes I am insane) I got her to level 14 and a Tauren Shammy  Zahrah on Gundrak who is now level 15 Leveling a priest like that

Hunter Cataclysm Stat Changes

I had so much fun looking at the stat changes for Honorshammer, I thought I’d see what Cataclysm has in store for my Hunter.

Cataclysm: Stat and system changes for rogues

I can’t say that I didn’t see this one coming. The Blizzard developers announced at the last BlizzCon that we’d seen the last of armor penetration and attack power, with the focus in Cataclysm being the simplification of stats. Eyonix recently posted a complete summary with all of the expected changes, and there’s a lot to be digested.

WRUP: What you’d like to see next edition

It’s the weekend again — which can only mean it’s time for an escape from the tedious grind of the working week — to replace it with the tedious grind of our favorite video games! For us, you might assume our favorite game is World of Warcraft , but the team is all over the map on gaming preferences. Some of us are still lost in Mass Effect 2 others have moved on to BioShock 2 , some of us are in the StarCraft II beta, and some of us are — gasp! — flirting with other MMOs while waiting for the next big thing in WoW . As a show of our gaming diversity, as well as checking in on what the WoW.com team is playing this weekend, I’ve asked what features from other games they’d like to see in WoW

Turning single-player games into MMORPGs

One last question from the open Sunday thread, then I think I answered them all. Void asked: “I would like to see you post about what MMOs could learn from single player games.
