GDC roundup, day two

The tenth annual Game Developers Conference is in full swing in San Francisco, CA, and our sister sites Joystiq and Massively are on the scene! No matter what kind of games you’re into, there’s a ton of news on its way out of the convention, and we’re compiling some of the stuff that might matter to you in daily roundups just for you. If you want the whole GDC news experience, check out all of Massively’s and Joystiq’s coverage, or yesterday’s roundup .

Around Azeroth: Mesdames butterfly

I’m pleased to announce that due to the acquisition of our parent company by one Mr. Andrew Ryan, Around Azeroth will now be changed to Around Rapture

To Break A Wall

S o what do you do when you hit a raid wall? Make an MS paint of the strat, of course! Who doesn’t love terribad MS paints?? Plus, firming up the strat with a cooky visual may be just what the doctor ordered.? At the very least, you hope looking at things from a different angle may help promote new ideas or understanding

Your Alt In Our Guild, My Shaman In Your Hands

There are now two Mimetirs.

Breakfast Topic: When the love comes back

Lately I am supremely enthused about my shaman. Fist weapons! Zapping things! Windfury! Turning that guy into a frog! That guy is totally a frog! Now he’s on fire! The best thing about the enhancement shaman playstyle I’m working with (designed for five mans and the occasional 10 raid) is working out for myself how to glyph and spec for it. It’s admittedly not the most efficient spec, relying on a lot of 3 second Fire Nova blasts in big trash pulls, but it’s undeniably fun

PvP with Blizzard QA tomorrow

Hey North American players, want to PvP with Blizzard’s QA staff? They sure seem to have been doing a lot of these lately .

Will WoW ever have a ‘DPS to heal’ model?

We were just talking about it on today’s podcast (thrill to the sound of three people barely awake trying to coherently discuss World of Warcraft ) and hey, look, Ghostcrawler reads my mind from across the interwebs. Well, okay, no, he responded to a forum thread, but it’s still interesting

I confess & Woot! 500

This blog wasn’t meant for confessions – if that were so I would be telling you all about my alledged thing for Pallys. But firstly on GM request – I confess on that I DPS’d our 3 attempts on Putricide last night in my healing set. I had swapped into it to see if a piece of loot was an upgrade of my healing set – and never swapped back

So, you’re bored, what do you do? Heroics Edition

H ey Gang! So if you’re like me, you’re probably so burned out from running the Daily heroics that your brain has exploded all over your keyboard. Spontaneous Combustion! BAM! The situation that most everyone’s still in is a couple of different things: A) You still need Frost Emblems for gear B) You still need Triumph Badges for gear C) You have absolutely nothing else to do with your time D) You are a masochistic person and enjoy the pain that it brings because it makes you feel alive Well, what ever combination you’re situation is right now, you still need to force yourself to run them. Most of the time, if you bring a buddy, it makes it 10x better

Around Azeroth: The taurlock

Tired of managing her totems, Naiara of on Earthen Ring is seeking a new path in life. “Ever since I won the roll on the gas mask I knew I must put my evil plan in motion!” she writes. “Never fear, this is just an ordinary mad scientist ..

Love

There was a time when I played the German version of A Tale in the Desert , and Teppy, the main developer, gathered all the players online on the server at one spot to hold a council.

Putting Faces to Names & The UI World

One of the great things about the standard Blizzard UI is the portraits given to your toon. Back in TBC, what I liked to do was show my helm for one gear set, my cloak for another and neither for a third.

One Shots: Goodbye, bear

Filed under: World of Warcraft , Fantasy , Screenshots , One Shots It’s always hard to retire a character you love — or to see your friends move on from a game you’ve played together for quite some time. Today’s World of Warcraft One Shots shows off one such bittersweet moment with a goodbye dance and /wave from Nakirush . The note goes on to explain: Oh bear tank…

Around Azeroth: Dragons in the mist

Deadlylupine of on Balnazzar snapped this shot of her drake rising through the mist in Terokkar Forest. “I happened to be flying in lovely Terokkar, and my Nether Drake was just so overwhelmed with light, he had to have a celebratory roar,” she wrote. Do you have any unusual, beautiful or interesting World of Warcraft images that are just collecting dust in your screenshots folder

Big Crits: Stoney’s new project

Here’s the deal. I’m breaking it here first because … because I love you guys, why else? You’ve followed me from Windfury Crits to Big Hit Box and to WoW.com.

What In the World Is Going On?

As most of you know I am a Christian.

Weekly Podcast Roundup: March 1st, 2010 through March 8th, 2010

Every Monday evening we’ll be putting out a big long list of WoW podcasts that were published the week (and weekend) before. This is the first edition of the list, so we’re probably missing a few — although our Twitter friends were very helpful in making sure we were complete as possible! If you don’t see your favorite podcast listed, just let us know in the comments

Around Azeroth: Will the wolf survive

With the number of mounts, vanity pets and summonable creatures in WoW, it’s surprising that we don’t see more incidents like this one. A?ro of on Fizzcrank is having trouble keeping her newly acquired wolf mount from devouring her phoenix pet. She’s not just looking out for the safety of the bird — those phoenixes can cause a heck of a case of heartburn if they ignite on the way through the wolf’s esophagus.
