WoW Lore and Rubber Bands

In which Anna makes an analogy to describe WoW Lore. There’s a lot of information out there about WoW Lore

Everquest’s 11th Anniversary Celebration

Oh where has the time gone?

The art of pricing

I hear this all the time: “Hurrr! Undercutters are ruining this market! Durrr!”. Today, we’re going to talk about this. Undercutting doesn’t ruin markets, high supply does

Stockholm syndrome and Hecker’s nightmare

I recently came across a player in World of Warcraft who was wearing a guild tag of .

WoW Patch 3.3.3 Honor and PvP Changes

There’s a lot going down in Patch 3.3.3 I haven’t really covered so far in regards to PvP and specifically my favorite feature – Battlegrounds. All of this is in preparation of the massive PvP overhaul coming in Cataclysm with a heavier emphasis on Battlegrounds. Tokens are being removed from the game, if you have tokens (the currency you get when you win or lose any BG) you’ll be able to turn those in now for a minor chunk of honor, which is a good thing I guess since there are some players out there with thousands of marks of honor

My Tribe – Next generation Facebook games?

Following a recommendation from Cuppycake , I reactivated my dormant Facebook account and started playing My Tribe . As I said in my previous discussion of Facebook games , I recognize the power of the social engineering tools used for games like Farmville, but didn’t like that these games were so lacking in actual gameplay. There isn’t really much gameplay involved in apps like Farmville or Mafia Wars, it is just clicking to get rewards, plus incentives to give money to the game company and to invite your friends into the game.

US First GotIR, Patch 3.3.3 Honor Changes, Blue posts

US First Glory of the Raider (25) by Midwinter Midwinter (US-Ysera) was the first guild to complete Glory of the Icecrown Raider (25 player) and I totally forgot to report it. Shame on me, and congratulations to them! Patch 3.3.3 Battlegrounds and Honor Changes Patch 3.3.3 brings a couple of changes to the Battleground system, the new system is heavily inspired from the current random dungeon system and it should be pretty easy to understand. Random Battleground and Call to Arms Call to Arms are no longer a quests and are directly integrated to the battlegrounds interface, a new “Random Battleground” option has been added and give you the same honor bonus as the Call To Arms, but applied to any battleground

Rob Pardo speaks about Blizzard game design

The tenth annual Game Developers Conference is in full swing in San Francisco, CA — and yesterday included a panel by Rob Pardo, Executive Vice President of Game Design at Blizzard Entertainment. Pardo spoke about design philosophy and how Blizzard approaches it, sharing not only Blizzard’s success stories, but where they failed along the way, and what they did to fix it. Blizzard’s design philosophy follows some key elements: Gameplay First : Before anything else, you want to concentrate the game on the fun

The real purpose of end-game

So Ferrel wants to bring back the grind and make leveling slower again, while Chris thinks leveling should be slowed down by giving less xp for quests . Both talk about how much better life was in Everquest, where most players never even reached the level cap (I didn’t), and how MMORPGs should be about the journey, not about the destination.

PvP: An Expansion in Ponderance: Resilience and Burst

The start of any expansion is a rough time for PvP. I only have two expansion packs to draw on here, but they both followed the same pattern

Totem Talk: Leveling as restoration

Want to be a sultan of swing healing? A champion of Chain Heal? Totem Talk : Restoration will show you how.

An orc by any other name would smell as sweet

In the open Sunday thread Nils asked “Would you like to speculate on the nature of Blizzards new MMO?” .

Major Aion Patch Details Surface – IGN

Major Aion Patch Details Surface IGN It can run in the background and alert you when it finds a suitable party a la World of Warcraft’s rather decent LFG-button.

3.3.3 Mounts, Battlecry Mosaic, Blue posts

Patch 3.3.3 Mounts Patch 3.3.3 introduced a couple of new mounts and I think it’s time for a recap! Celestial Steed The Celestial Steed is probably the most impressive mount of his patch, it looks like a mix of Invincible and Algalon. I’m not really sure where this mount will drop for the moment but considering how cool it looks, I wouldn’t expect it to be widely available.

What’s My Main Again? Oh, Right, Lag

There’s been a rather interesting issue I’ve had to fight with since… oh, since the Blood Wing went live in ICC. See, this is what happens.

World of Farmcraft

Game developers, as well as the armchair developers on blogs and forums, tend to design games around what *they* would like to play. So if I’d ask you for what features your dream MMORPG would have, I’m sure you could provide me a list.

Gnome and troll starting zones to be revamped

After five years of squatting in other races’ capital cities, gnomes and trolls will have their starting zones revamped, developers confirmed through the recently concluded chat over Twitter . It probably isn’t much of a spoiler now after the developers talked about it, but discovered among the files in Patch 3.3.3 were quests and Achievements related to the retaking of Gnomeregan and Echo Isles

Icecrown Citadel Zone Buff, Blue posts

Icecrown Citadel Zone-Buff is here The optional zone buff in the Icecrown Citadel is now available and will make the instance easier for whoever wants to use it. The buff currently increases total health, healing done and damage dealt by 5% but higher versions are in-game and will probably be activated later . Strength of Wrynn (5%) / Hellscream’s Warsong (5%) Strength of Wrynn (10%) / Hellscream’s Warsong (10%) Strength of Wrynn (15%) / Hellscream’s Warsong (15%) Strength of Wrynn (20%) / Hellscream’s Warsong (20%) Strength of Wrynn (25%) / Hellscream’s Warsong (25%) Strength of Wrynn (30%) / Hellscream’s Warsong (30%) On a sidenote, the amount of limited attempts for end-wing bosses has been increased to 35.

I’m-a Callin’ You Out

It’s not often that I feel the need to publicly denounce somebody, but this is a pretty special case. Coordinated douchebaggery. I’ll explain.
