Looking Back at a Year O’ Pike

I decided to go back through aaaallll my blog posts and see what I did this past year. Here’s what happened, in a nutshell: January 2009 : The remnants of Pike’s old and exploded guild < Entelechy > coalesced into < Friend Ship > a few months prior and because it’s a tiny baby guild we’re mostly PuG’ing stuff. At this point I was in Naxx25 PuGs with Tawyn, topping the Patchwerk meters in blues with endless Steady Shot spam

…and number four. And number five.

Sooo, I’m not gonna beat around the bush.

World of Warcraft and Battle Chest on sale for Black Friday

Yes indeed, this Friday is none other than Black Friday , which means the deals will be aplenty, the crowds will be horrendous, and the holiday money drain will begin (of course, you could go with Buy Nothing Day , but that seems a little too grinchy to me — why not go ahead and buy while the buying’s good?). Fortunately, there are a few WoW deals floating around out there, in case you need to pick up a copy of the game for a loved one (or that Recruit-a-friend account you’ve been planning to make).

WoW Rookie: Recruit-a-Friend

New around here?

Squeezing more money out of your players

One of the complaints about Free2Play games is that developers would on purpose design the game mechanics in a way that makes buying stuff from the item shop more desirable. Like slowing down leveling and then selling you scrolls of faster leveling. That is indeed a possibility, but it isn’t limited to Free2Play games

In Which Pike Discusses Things At Random

Recruit-a-Friend is insane. Last week my tauren druid was level 38 or something.

An Even Larger aMOUNT

A sequel to yesterday’s post about Tawyn’s mounts, here are Lunapike’s: This was her first, your standard Gray Kodo .

Win some real-life loot from screenshot contests

We’ve got not one but two different screeshot contests that have shown up on the tip line lately. First off, our friend Mep, who runs WoW Screenshots , has gotten his contest all up and running, and you can go over and upload a screenshot or vote for the winners over there right now

What Happens When You Combine Two of My Favorite Things

The desert stretched far and wide under the young druid’s hooves and she found herself sighing at this wasteland that she had come to. The goblins had plenty of tasks for young entrepreneurs, but few would help to test and grow her skill with the healing arts, which was her focus– no, most of the goblins asked for bandits to be chased off and roving animal bands to be culled. She shifted effortlessly into the form of a dust-colored lion and stretched, as she did so briefly inspecting her claws– they were not as sharp as they could be.

Recruit-a- …me?

I’ve been feeling a little silly lately since I feel like I don’t have much to blog about. Not to say that I’m not enjoying myself in game, but really, I figure who really wants to hear about me ramble about dailies, alts, and the occasional heroic? (Though if you do want to hear me ramble about that stuff for some reason, lemme know =P) Fortunately I may have found something of interest to talk about: namely, yesterday I decided to splurge and I got myself a second WoW account and Recruit-a-Friend

Scattered Shots: So you want to be a Hunter – Part 2 Levels 1-9

Welcome back to the Scattered Shots , So you want to be a Hunter series. This guide is intended to help new Hunters better understand how to play the best class in the game

Scattered Shots: So you want to be a Hunter – Part 1 Racials

Good day folks and welcome to Scattered Shots . The column that takes a good look at what it takes to be a Hunter in the World of Warcraft. I am Eddie “Brigwyn” Carrington from the Hunting Lodge

Heirlooms for every slot

I’ve been pushing forward on my Paladin lately, and so I’ve entered the wacky world of Heirlooms . I have already picked up the leather Heirloom shoulders (thinking that even though the Pally wears plate, if I ever want to level a Druid or Rogue, I’ll have them), and I’m well on my way to grabbing the new Heirloom chestpiece as well — 20% bonus XP, combined with a healthy amount of rested XP, should make the leveling curve as easy as it gets ( RaF is nice too , I guess, but I’d rather not pay for a second account). So I’m in Heirlooms up to my neck (at least until they give us helms), and I was intrigued by this question over on the Rawrcast forums: do you think Blizzard will eventually provide Heirloom items for every slot

Officers’ Quarters: Crushed by the banhammer

Every Monday Scott Andrews contributes Officers’ Quarters , a column about the ins and outs of guild leadership. I enjoy the process of leveling as much as anyone else. I like the feeling of accomplishment in leveling, and the gradual growth of power that comes with it.

More ideas for player housing

Spicytuna has a nice little writeup about a much-discussed but never implemented feature in World of Warcraft : player housing. Blizzard has borrowed (and subsequently improved upon) many of the most common features in MMOs — they revamped leveling with ideas like rested XP and recruit-a-friend , they changed the endgame with the ideas of Heroic instances and daily quests , and they’ve tweaked PvP with battlegrounds, Wintergrasp and Arenas. But for some reason they’ve never taken on the idea of player housing : a place in the game for players to make their own.

TurpsterVision: Multiboxing Unmasked

We can’t believe it either – Turpster has been let loose on WoW.com to bring you videos from in and around the World of Warcraft! You’ve heard him on the WoW Insider Show , and now see him on TurpsterVision right here on WoW.com. Last week we had a look into the benefits of Blizzard’s Recruit a Friend scheme and Multiboxing ; today we look at how to get started with Multiboxing at home with one PC and several WoW accounts.

TurpsterVision: Multiboxing, Recruit a Friend Style

We can’t believe it either – Turpster has been let loose on WoW.com to bring you videos from in and around the World of Warcraft! You’ve heard him on the WoW Insider Show , and now see him on TurpsterVision right here on WoW.com.

Did you finish the Fire Festival?

That hot time of the year, the Midsummer Fire Festival, has now ended. Once again the denizens of Azeroth go about their humdrum lives without any brilliant fires and spirited naked flame-ladies dancing to and fro on the bridges of Ironforge

Multiboxing.tv lets you watch multiboxing as it happens

Our old friend Tim Sullivan, who worked at Wowhead way back in the day, just sent along a note that he’s working on a brand new web video series all about something in World of Warcraft that’s been gaining a lot of ground lately: multiboxing. Thanks to recruit-a-friend and all of the bonuses that come along with sponsoring a second account, quite a few people have shown an interest in running more than one character in the game, and Tim’s series, called Multiboxing.tv , shows live feeds from his gameplay (all five screens of it, four Hunters and one Priest) while people can chat and learn live about multiboxing and how it all works

Project 62*80: 62 level 80s by Christmas

Filed under: Paladin , Analysis / Opinion , Fan stuff , Virtual selves , Odds and ends , Death Knight , Fan art , Europe I first heard about this from El Jeppy when I visited him and company on the Rawrcast Show a few weeks ago, but now he’s posted a little more about goals and method on his site. He’s just beginning something called “Project 62*80,” which sounds pretty crazy on the front of it: he’s planning to level 62 different characters (which is apparently one of each race and class combination for both Horde and Alliance) to level 80, and he’s planning to do it by Christmas of this year.
